MANTA BOARD: MAY 2026

The MANTA Board is posted every month, but the quests are on a "2 month cycle." This means quests can last for two months with possible updates or new additions in the second month before it completely refreshes for the next cycle. Players can do older quests so long as they do not have some kind of resolution or time limit on them.

Quests are separated into five categories and all have flat point values: General (4pts), Corsair (4pts), Paladin (4pts), Bounties (6pts), and Specials (12pts). Crew quests are listed under "Specials" and are worth the same amount of points (12pts). Although these quests are intended for established crews, non-members are allowed to assist if the crew invites them. However, non-members would only receive 6pts. Similarly, characters helping opposing armada quests will only be rewarded 2pts for participation unless specified otherwise. Special quests won't always be available so it may appear blank at times. These can range from group quests such as for special ship upgrades or island related quests, or they could be special event quests. All quest points can be used for the Rewards Shop.

If you wish to submit a quest, comment in the appropriate field during Activity Check with the quest written and we'll add it to the next month! Crews are also still allowed to make their own quests without our approval, but if uncertain players can comment here about them.

Ahoy, mateys! Here be the monthly Activity Check!

Please include brief notes on how the situation was handled (or, in the case of a thread not being complete, how it has been handled so far and/or how you expect it to conclude if possible).

Any weather relic fragments found/taken/destroyed

Any encounters against the ice snake dragon

Please check our Activity Check guidelines on our Game Info page for complete details, but here is the quick list of what you need to know:

» Only threads dated from April 1st through April 30th count towards the month's activity. (With the exception of certain backdated threads, read the linked AC guidelines for more details.)

» Activity requires one thread of at least 5 comments. The comment count is from your character.

» Any thread counts, including those made within your own entries and subthreads within your own toplevels. Individual entry posts do not count, only the threads within the posts. TDM threads with non-game characters will count.

» Continuation threads are considered as part of the previous thread so they count as one thread not two. For the sake of ease, we would like the two threads linked together.

» You are exempt from any checks for hiatuses that last for over 21 days. Anything less and you'll still need to submit your AC unless there are other circumstances.

» Because we are a capped game, there is no strike system. If you do not make the AC requirements, you will be cut.

» Bonus AC points: All extra non-quest threads not used for AC will be worth 2 extra points that can be used for reward redemption. Please check our Rewards page for more details.

There will be no warnings. All submissions are due Thursday, April 30th 11:59PM US Eastern.

EXTRA FIELDS: This is not required and completely optional, but included in the submission form are two optional fields: Extra and MANTA Board Posting.

For the Extra field, this is just a space for players to note anything that occurred in their threads that they think might be fun for us to know. So if something particularly interesting happened (for example: discovering a new creature or location, an old artifact, or perhaps a character has stolen something), we highly encourage players to jot them down! Who knows, we may even find a use for it… In addition, we may ask players to submit certain activity related to an event.

You may also submit MANTA board requests to be included in the upcoming board. We will try to add them immediately, otherwise we'll save them for the next Board or a time we deem fitting. If you don't have one in mind at the time of AC, you can post it later to the upcoming Captain's Log announcement.

Okay, uh, anyone heading for Lunare? DO NOT. If you're in Lunare, make tracks, pronto! Emet-Selch is out of his emet-loving mind right now! I'm not sure what's going on with him - if that really is him - but he's going after folks and doing something super bad to their minds! They're turning crazy - and I don't mean angry, I mean they're actually insane now!

[ She winces, hearing the scream of the latest target, one of the rabbit folk. It's not a pretty time out there. ]

He's going after anyone and everything that isn't his style, and apparently, that is a LOT of stuff. I know he needs to be stopped, but unless you are one hundred percent convinced you can do it, DO NOT COME HERE.

[ Something big and heavy is suddenly knocked into those crates, exposing Della to the thing that calls itself Emet. ]

... Uh-oh. Della Duck, over and out!

[ She reaches for a sword on her hilt, dropping her device as she runs - and it's clear before the feed dies that he's following...]

Happy Wednesday!

I'm taking search offline sometime today to upgrade the server to a new instance type. It should be down for a day or so -- sorry for the inconvenience. If you're curious, the existing search machine is over 10 years old and was starting to accumulate a decade of cruft...!

Also, apparently these older machines cost more than twice what the newer ones cost, on top of being slower. Trying to save a bit of maintenance and cost, and hopefully a Wednesday is okay!

Edited: The other cool thing is that this also means that the search index will be effectively realtime afterwards... no more waiting a few minutes for the indexer to catch new content.

[When the video kicks on, the camera is shaky. That's because Darin is fumbling with trying to get his Shellphone aligned. When he appears on screen, he's upside down.]

Okay. Okay, you guys are not going to believe this, but I did it.

[He squints at the screen.]

Oh Gods damn— [He flips the shellphone so he's right side up. He's also covered in sweat and dirt and soot. And metal shavings. And what appears to be oil? Some sort of tar-like polish.]

Okay, there. Anyway! So, a couple of months back I had some people help me secure some of that crazy mood ore. The Magnetecorum! Well, thanks to everyone's help, I've had plenty to work with and process. The goal was to make something that I could use for the cores of the Beacon Boxes, but I needed to refine the metal into something usable. The ore was too brittle to work with on its own— and yes, trust me, I've made the "fragile emotions" crack about a thousand times in the last month and a half— BUT! But, I think I figured it out. I managed to create an alloy that I could then smelt into an ingot and— Okay seriously, check this out~!

[Darin turns the camera to one of the workbenches in his forge which is piled high with wafer thin slabs of immaculately shaped and polished metal. He picks up a piece, and the glossy, platinum-like metal begins to glow red-hot, as if it had just come out of the fire. But either it doesn't burn Darin or he doesn't notice it.]

Ah! There, see?! See?! It's resonating! It's getting as fired up as I am! Now that I have this stuff, I think I can make even more potent, robust cores for the boxes! And, in the meantime, just to get a better handle on how it responds to people, I'm going to be personally crafting some special armor and accessories that'll be up for sale by next month!

Also? Magnetecorum is a real mouthful and kinda sucks from a marketing standpoint, which is why I've taken the liberty of giving the alloy a new, much easier to remember name!

Ladies and Gentlemen? I give you...

And no, the name is not up to workshop. You want to name it something better— which, by the way, you can't— invent your own alloy that responds to your heart's strongest desires!

I'll be taking custom Passionite Orders for the foreseeable future, so come on down to the Starmetal Forge~!

This is Professor Turo, and my apologies for perhaps a late statement that I may not be so easily found as usual the last several days; a few days more as well. Less time spent walking Cosmo, other places.

Of course I can still be reached over these, but I have been taking some time to myself. Finishing up a few projects, making room for others that are more in progress. Preparation for possible adoption candidates at Cosmo Conservatory -next month may do well for that- so I can be found within the medical building there once more at the very least.

[—that melody hanging in the air for a few notes. It at least helped to soothe...]
